Hello, World

Updated: 4 days ago

Books have been a part of my for my entire life. My mother began reading to me when I was four months old, starting my love affair with the written word. By the time I was twelve, I was ready to write my first novel. Or so I thought. Not only wasn't it publishable, it was a convoluted nightmare. Unfortunately, I lost the notebook I started writing my masterpiece to the flood waters of Hurricane Katrina.

I am originally from New Orleans, residing there until 2005 when we lost almost everything except the clothes on our backs and two additional days' worth in our suitcases. I now reside in Greater Houston and will soon graduate from Full Sail University with a BFA in Creative Writing.

My daughter and I attended the online program together. She will still be considered a first-generation college graduate in our immediate family because her name begins with a 'K'. No matter. I am still excited about achieving a dream I never thought possible. The portfolio I've created during my time as a student is one of my proudest accomplishments.

I dream of becoming a hybrid author, mainly because there is nothing like walking into a bookstore and seeing a book you wrote on the shelves. As a self-published author, it is so difficult to get your books in stores. Writing as Kathryn C. Kelly I have achieved a modicum of success. It has taken a little over twelve years, but I am near ninety thousand self-published novels sold.

Writing has always been what I wanted to do, specifically romance novels. When I mention that, I receive snickers and side-eyes, which always amuse me. At one time, the sales of romance novels accounted for fifty-one percent of the entire publishing industry. I don't pull those statistics out of thin air. I was once heavily involved in Romance Writers of America, and even served as Vice-President for the New Orleans chapter. It was my job to keep up with the industry.

More recently, I signed books at Motorcycles, Mobsters, and Mayhem in Frisco, TX and released a new book on February 27th. I have another book set to release on April 8th and several more over the course of the year. When I'm not writing or completing assignments, I take care of my mother and help to look after my daughters' fur babies. My hobbies include reading, listening to music, singing badly, mobile gaming, and cooking.
